Types of Cross Symbols
The Latin cross ✝ is the most widely recognized Christian symbol, and ✞ and ✟ are decorative outline versions. ☦ is the Orthodox cross with its extra bars, ☨ is the Cross of Lorraine, ☩ is the Cross of Jerusalem and ✠ is the Maltese cross. ☧ (Chi Rho) is an early Christian monogram, and ☥ is the ancient Egyptian ankh. People use these in bios, memorial posts, church newsletters and event programs.
The dagger † and double dagger ‡ look similar but are typographic marks: in books and papers they point to footnotes, and † is also traditionally placed next to the name of someone who has passed away.
Symbols of Faith and Peace
This page also collects symbols from many traditions: ☪ (star and crescent), ✡ (Star of David), 🕎 (menorah), 🕉 (Om), ☸ (Wheel of Dharma), ☬ (Adi Shakti, associated with the Sikh Khanda), ☯ (yin and yang) and ☮ (the peace sign). They’re plain Unicode characters, so they can be used in documents, messages and profiles — please use them thoughtfully and respectfully.
