How strikethrough text works
Unicode includes “combining” characters that draw on top of the letter before them. The strikethrough generator adds the long stroke overlay (U+0336) after every character, so t̶e̶x̶t̶ appears crossed out even in apps without a formatting toolbar.
Underline uses the combining low line (U+0332) and slash uses the long solidus overlay (U+0338).
Ways to use crossed-out text
Strikethrough is perfect for jokes and fake “corrections” — I̶’̶m̶ f̶i̶n̶e̶ I’m totally fine — showing an old price next to a sale price, crossing tasks off a list, or adding irony to a caption.
Underline helps a title or keyword stand out in a bio where bold would feel too loud.
