Where you can use fancy fonts on Discord

Since Discord moved to unique usernames, the username itself only allows lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores — but your display name, server nicknames, About Me, custom status and server names all accept Unicode.

Copy a style above and paste it into User Settings → Profiles, or right-click yourself in a server member list to change your nickname there.

Fancy fonts vs. Discord markdown

Inside messages, Discord already supports markdown: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~, `code` and ||spoilers||. Markdown doesn’t work in names or statuses, which is where Unicode fonts shine.

Fonts also give you looks markdown can’t create, like gothic, cursive, bubble letters and glitch text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t I use fancy fonts in my Discord username?

Discord usernames are limited to lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Fancy fonts work in your display name and per-server nicknames, which is what most people see in chat.

Will a fancy Discord name make me harder to mention?

People can always mention you by your username, but typing @ followed by a styled display name may not find you in autocomplete. Keeping one plain word in your nickname makes you easier to find.

Can I get colored text on Discord?

Not with Unicode fonts — they change the shape of letters, not their color. On desktop, Discord can color text inside an ```ansi code block using ANSI color codes.
